The G&G Sewing Society 2019

A round up of the kits featured in 2019

How to match up dressmaking fabrics with the lovely selection of indie sewing patterns that we offer is a really common question our customers ask us and here at g&g we just love helping and inspiring new projects ideas!

So in March 2019 we launched The g&g Sewing Society as a new way to help you create a gorgeous handmade wardrobe that you'll love, treasure and feel proud of!

Each month we create a limited number of dressmaking kits that contain everything you need to make a specific garment, chosen by Lauren and the team. It makes it super easy to ensure you have the best pattern and fabric match, along with all the notions you need to complete the project successfully.

You'll learn new sewing skills and feel confident about challenging yourself with the help and support of an exclusive video prepared by Lauren for each kit. She explains the key construction steps to make it easier to understand and shares her extra hints and tips for making a beautifully, well finished garment.

April

April saw the very first Sewing Society release of The Willow Tank by Grainline Studio using Atelier Brunette Tabby Green Viscose. This was the perfect addition to a Spring wardrobe. Fitted at the shoulders and falling into a relaxed fit below the bust, it's simple design was a great option for beginner and advanced sewists alike!

The second project was Tilly and the Buttons Agnes made from a silky soft modal jersey that was produced in the UK especially for g&g! Speedy to sew and simple to fit, this was an irresistibly wearable and endlessly versatile make that we didn't want to take off!

May

An all around superstar, the Tilly and the Buttons Ness Skirt in deep blue cotton denim was a great option for all seasons! The straight skirt has a shaped waistband and curved back yoke for a flattering fit that looks great with sandals in the summer and cosy tights in the winter.

The Jarrah Sweater from Megan Nielsen is a loose fit, drop shoulder sweater that we paired with a beautiful, rose pink, shimmery cotton sweat shirting. Perfect for unpredictable, British weather, this was another super versatile make.

June

The Closet Core Kalle Shirt was a perfect match with Atelier Brunette Sparkle Melba Cotton Lawn. With a loose, body skimming silhouette and lots of classic shirt features, the Kalle is the ultimate in chic, easy dressing.

We paired The True Bias Southport Dress with a simple cotton chambray with beach trips and hot days in mind! A tank style dress with a button front, this was a summer wardrobe staple!

July

The beautiful Deer and Doe Magnolia Dress paired with a stunning Liberty London viscose print was one of the highlights of the year! The mock wrap dress was perfect for wedding season and Liberty printed the viscose exclusive for g&g which made it even more special!

The Nina Lee Kew Skirt matched with Dashwood Studios viscose featured an elegant high low hem and a button down front. Perfect for summer, this project was bang on trend with the midi length!

September

The Closet Core Sasha Trousers in Liberty Stretch Gabardine were another highlight of last year! A polished wardrobe staple featuring classic tailored details, these trousers were a great work to weekend option.

This super cosy Nina Lee Southbank sweater completed the outfit perfectly! With a slightly oversized fit, funnel neck and drop-shoulders, it was on-trend, comfortable and flattering.

October

This kit contained 3 colour way options of Abraham Moon Wool and Liberty Tana Lawn to make a chic Grainline Studio Yates Coat. This gorgeous 100% woollen fabric is manufactured in one of the last remaining vertical mills here in the UK by Abraham Moon and Sons Ltd in Guiseley and we were lucky enough to visit to see exactly how the fabric is created!

November

Inspired by sparkly Christmas lights, the Closet Core Cielo Top in champagne gold sequin fabric was perfect for the festive season! In the accompanying video we also shared how to attach a lining of the top at the neckline, which is an additional step to the pattern instructions.

Also perfect for Christmas parties was the Liesl & Co Pencil Skirt made in a beautiful teal jacquard fabric. This skirt pattern includes side panels and a back yoke detail for easy fitting without darts as well as a back walking vent.
