The perfect sundress which will also see you through into cooler months, this kit includes everything you need to make the Sauvie Dress from Sew House Seven!
The Sauvie Dress is a timeless summer dress which is the ideal mix of comfort, ease and style. It has lots of lovely options and details and can be easily layered over a t-shirt if the weather isn’t playing ball!
Designed to be a strappy dress that won’t leave you feeling exposed, the front and back necklines are both cut with a gently swooping V which are connected by nice wide, bra-friendy straps. You can add a bra strap holder to the straps too so there’s no risk of them slipping off your shoulders.
The darted bodice is lined and there’s the option to make it more fitted by adding an elasticated waist, or you can leave it loose for a floatier look!
On the skirt section you can opt for a simple knee length, a midi length with a gathered tier or a midi length with side splits. The side splits are finished with beautifully mitred corners, which are incredibly satisfying to sew! In her tips video Lauren demonstrates how to sew the side seam and split opening with a French seam for a lovely clean finish.
Sauvie also has lovely roomy pockets with a unique cut out opening. These can be topstitched down so they stay nicely in place, or left loose. Lauren shows you how to stripe match the pocket opening so they blend seamlessly with your dress.
For this kit we’ve selected three lovely summer fabrics, all with a stripe theme! Lurex Stripe, Woven Stripe and Neapolitan Stripe
The Lurex Stripe fabric is a viscose linen blend, so has the lovely texture of linen with the amazing drape and movement of viscose. Woven throughout the fabric are subtle gold lurex stripes which gently shimmer in the sunlight. The fabric is 70% viscose and 30% linen and has a gsm of 175.
The Woven Stripe fabric has a jacquard weave with lovely pops of coral and teal colours in the design. It is 70% cotton, 30% linen and 185gsm, so is the more stable of the three fabrics to work with. It has a full drape and holds the shape of the skirt well.
The Neapolitan Stripe fabric reminds us of our favourite childhood ice cream, with those strawberry, vanilla and chocolate stripes! At 90gsm it is the lighter weight of the three fabrics, but is still opaque. It is 83% viscose and 17% polyamide with a lovely fluid drape.
