An easy to wear skirt that will have you floating about all summer, this kit includes everything you need to make the Mave Skirt from True Bias!
The Mave Skirt is a super comfy skirt with gathered tiers and extra swish-factor. An elasticated skirt that sits on the waist, Mave has a whopping 8 variations, depending on which ruffle and skirt pieces you choose. There’s also three length options, so you really do get good pattern mileage with this one!
The waist elastic on Mave is topstitched down for a professional finish and then a drawstring is added which can be cut to size. And there’s pockets - yay! Optional pockets can be added into the side seams and are understitched to stay neatly hidden during wear.
If you’re feeling hesitant about sewing the gathers then we have three different methods for you to try on Mave, which Lauren demonstrates in her top tips video. You’re sure to find one you love, which is a great skill to have in your sewing tool kit for any other future makes!
With its straightforward construction and in-depth instructions, Mave is a great beginner friendly project. But she’s also a satisfying make for a more experienced sewer and an easy piece to throw on for anyone’s wardrobe - the perfect summer sewing project!
All kits contain enough fabric to make the full length versions of Mave.
For this kit we’ve chosen three lovely prints on two different base cloths: blue flower linen and mustard and stone animal viscose linen.
The Blue Flower Linen is a gorgeous design printed onto 100% linen, which is the ideal fabric for summer. Linen is a breathable fabric that continues to soften with washing and wear, so this one will only get better with age! The print on the fabric also means that any creases aren’t obvious - less ironing, hooray!
The Mustard and Stone Animal Viscose Linens have the wonderful slubby texture of linen that we love, with the added drape from the viscose. This means the fabric has great movement to it and the gathers hang really softly. This fabric is 75% linen and 25% viscose, a combination of two lovely warm weather fabrics.
To see the fabrics close up check out the video in the main gallery above by swiping left.
This pattern is available in two size ranges: US 0-18 and US 14-30. Waist 26-50.5” & hips 34-59.5”.
The full size charts, including finished measurements, can be viewed in the gallery above.

A physical print out of the instruction booklet will NOT be included. You can view the instruction booklet on your device at home, print it out at home, or add the 'printed pattern instructions' product (see link below) to your order and we will print it for you.
Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to Lauren’s exclusive YouTube video to be used alongside the pattern instructions.
She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to cut drapey fabrics, three methods for creating gathers in fabric, how to sew the narrow tie, how to topstitch the waistband and much more!
The video has over 29 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.
The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference. An overlocker is used to demonstrate one of the gathering techniques in Lauren’s video, but if you don’t have one there are also two methods demonstrated on a standard sewing machine.
True Bias rate the difficulty level for this pattern as 1.5 / 5. We’d rate this kit as suitable for a confident beginner, especially if using the blue flower linen fabric which is more stable to work with.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
