Isla Trench Coat Kit

A timeless piece that will be used for years (and years!) to come, this kit includes everything you need to make the Isla Trench Coat from Named Patterns!

The Isla Trench is a straight-cut, fully lined coat with all the details you'd expect on such an iconic piece.

At the top there's a full collar and stand, with the option to add a collar strap fastening to help keep out the elements. Further weather protection is provided by the lined cape and we've also included some special showerproof deadstock fabric in this kit to keep you dry.

On the front of the coat there's roomy welt pockets and in her video Lauren also demonstrates how to add sleek inseam pockets, for a simpler sew. The two piece sleeves have a tab detailing at the bottom and there's a matching waist belt to further cinch the coat in here.

The fit of the coat is tailored, but with enough ease for layering up on chilly days. There's a bust dart for shaping and to help with pattern adjustments and the double-breasted button fastening adds a classic look which is topped off with double topstitching.

At the back there's a vent to allow movement, which is beautifully finished with the lining. In her video Lauren discusses how you can shorten the coat to your preferences, with the option of fully removing the vent.

This style of coat is loved for its versatility, transitioning perfectly from casual to formal occasions and promises to never go out of fashion. A meatier make that you can really get your teeth stuck into, Isla is one that you'll really feel proud of.

All kits include enough fabric to make the full length version of the coat.

This kit is available in two colours: sand and navy

The outer fabric for this kit is an ex-designer deadstock twill, which is 60% viscose and 40% nylon. It is on the lighter side of medium-weight, yet is densely woven and has a full drape. It also has the benefit of being showerproof to give added weather protection.

For the main lining, we've chosen a double faced cotton which is also a deadstock fabric. The fabric has a check design which gives echoes of a certain designer trench coat and is lovely and soft against the skin. It is 100% cotton and made in Italy.

For the sleeves, we've selected a more traditional lining fabric to allow to coat to easily slip on and off. This fabric has a plain weave and is 65% viscose and 35% acetate. It too is ex-designer deadstock and made in Italy.

Named Patterns rate the Isla Trench coat skill level as 'Master' - suitable for experienced dressmakers. It includes a lot of different elements, though much of the sewing itself is fairly straightforward.

The difficulty level can be reduced by omitting details and sewing in-seam pockets, as Lauren did on her navy version.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.

Sewing clips or fine pins are also very helpful for pinning the fabric, as it is densely woven. Washi tape or masking tape is also useful for marking the fabric or securing pieces together.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.

Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.

We will aim to dispatch all kits as soon as possible after orders are placed and aim to have all kits shipped out by Friday 20th September.
