Georgie Dress Kit

Comfort and style combined! this kit contains everything you need to make the Georgie Dress from Sew Over It.

The Georgie dress is a chic everyday knit dress that is comfy to wear and easy to style. It has a faux wrap front that provides the right amount of coverage and is guaranteed to be gape free!

Georgie comes with two different skirt options: a slightly a-line gathered skirt and an elegant ¾ circle skirt. The sleeves are full length but can easily be shortened to suit your style, which Lauren discusses in her tips video.

The wrap bodice is fully lined, providing extra support as well as a beautiful clean finish on the neckline. There are pleats on the front bodice, which help to provide bust shaping and texture. To keep the neckline nice and secure, elastic is cleverly inserted into the front seam allowance and hidden on the inside.

Elastic is also sewn into the waistline to help support it and stop it from bagging out with wear. Optional belt loops can then be sewn on top so you can have the option to wear your dress with a little belt.

Georgie is the perfect year round dress that you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again. She looks great layered up with tights and a cardi in chilly weather, but equally good with bare legs and sandals when summer arrives!

All kits contain enough fabric to make either view of the dress.

For this kit we’ve chosen three lovely stretchy jerseys on two base cloths: navy multi sprinkle, teal scribble dot and purple flower shadows.

The navy and teal fabrics are both high quality cotton jerseys, with a weight of 200gsm making them opaque. They are 95% cotton and 5% elastane, which means they have great stretch and recovery as well as the breathable qualities of cotton. They’re also incredibly comfortable to wear.

The purple flower fabric is a bamboo/cotton blend knit (67% bamboo, 28% cotton, 5% elastane) which also has a weight of 200gsm. This fabric has the same stretchiness as the above cotton jerseys, whilst the bamboo content adds an extra drapiness to the fabric. It makes it super soft too!

Each kit includes a coordinating viscose jersey lining fabric. This fabric is stretchy and lightweight, making it ideal for lining the bodice without adding too much bulk. It is 95% viscose and 5% elastane.

This pattern is available in two size ranges: UK 6-20 (B Cup) and UK 18-30 (D Cup). Bust 31-57”, waist 24-50” & hips 34-60”.

If you are unsure about what dressmakers cup size you are, please check out this article and note that it is different to what bra size you might wear.

The full size charts, including finished measurements, can be viewed in the gallery above - please note there is negative ease included in this pattern due to the stretchy fabric. This is why the finished garment measurements may be smaller than your body measurements.

This pattern is aimed at confident beginner to intermediate dressmakers.

We’d recommend this kit to makers who’ve completed a couple of jersey/stretch projects, as it contains details such as a lined bodice and sewn-in elastic. All of these elements are of course covered in Lauren's top tips video.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.

An overlocker can be helpful for finishing the raw edges of the fabric, but this is not essential.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.

Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.

We will aim to dispatch all kits as soon as possible after orders are placed, and we aim to have all kits shipped out by Friday 23rd February.

As Sewing Society kits are processed and shipped from a different location to the shop, we are unable to group together kit orders with past or subsequent orders or combine orders retrospectively. Please click here for the full g&g Sewing Society shipping terms.
