Nicks Top Kit

Happy Birthday guthrie & ghani! This Sewing Society kit contains everything you need to make the gorgeous Nicks Top by Closet Core Patterns in our exclusive birthday print.

Inject a little bohemian glamour into your wardrobe with the Nicks Top! With soft gathering and delicate details, it's satisfying to make and a pleasure to wear.

The top features a loose-fitting V-necked bodice with a gently gathered shoulder and back. The slightly puffed sleeve is gathered at the shoulder and can be made as a short sleeve, or a long sleeve with wrist pleats for shaping and an elastic gathered cuff. Choose between two neckline finishes: a sleek topstitched facing or a bias-bound finish, complimented by delicate rouleau button loops at the centre front. We've included covered buttons with this kit for an extra special touch, which really enhance the beautiful fabric.

As well as being effortlessly stylish, the Nicks Top ticks the comfort box. The swing tunic with gathered tier (view B) and the elegant blouse (view C) are both fitted on the shoulders whilst having enough ease through the bodice for a breezy fit.

What makes this kit extra special is the limited edition EcoVero™ viscose fabric which has been designed by Lauren Guthrie in collaboration with Rachel Parker to celebrate guthrie & ghani's 10th birthday. Full of beautiful, colourful flowers and foliage, chosen by Lauren for their special meaning and connection to the g&g story, the 'Bee Happy Blooms' print truly evokes the joy of spring!

This kit includes enough fabric to make the short sleeve tunic or long sleeve blouse (views B & C). If you would prefer to make the dress (view A), please see our separate Nicks Dress kit listing below.

Our exclusive Bee Happy Blooms EcoVero™ viscose is available in three gorgeous colours: Ecru, Teal and Navy

The print was created by Lauren in collaboration with surface pattern designer Rachel Parker. It is full of details which represent important elements of Lauren's life and the g&g story, such as plants with her children's names, the Lauren Peony and a cute little bumble bee. The print has been produced especially to celebrate the 10th birthday of the guthrie & ghani business, so that our lovely customers can be part of this big celebration. To find out more about the design process - check out this blog post and video (from 3rd April).

The EcoVero™ viscose fabric that Bee Happy Blooms is printed on is a beautifully soft, plain weave base that gives a smooth finish with the gorgeous drape and movement you would expect from a viscose fabric.

EcoVero™ viscose is a more sustainable fibre due to the unique methods used for its production. The fibres are derived from sustainable wood sources and the manufacturing cycle has been developed to drastically reduce the environmental impact compared to traditional viscose production.

This pattern is available in two size ranges: US 0-20 (B Cup) and US 14-32 (D Cup). If you are unsure about what dressmakers cup size you are, please check out this article and note that it is different to what bra size you might wear.

We think it's worth noting that this pattern has a LOT of positive ease - that means it's designed to be fitted loose on the body. If you prefer a closer fit then you might consider sizing down by 1-2 sizes. There is more guidance on this in Laurens hints and tips video. In the modelled images the samples have been sized down by 2 sizes, except for the navy blue top with the gathered tier, which was sewn to Lauren's measurements.

This pattern is aimed at intermediate sewers due to the accuracy needed for certain parts of construction such as the rouleau loops and the gathered shoulder seam section that fits into the lined back yoke.

The slippery viscose fabric does add a level of trickiness to this project, though Lauren's videos are packed with extra tips on making the fabric as easy to work with as possible.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.

A walking foot for your sewing machine is useful for working with the viscose fabric and a pressing cloth will help protect the fabric during ironing.

A loop turner (linked below) also makes creating the rouleau loops for the buttons much easier and how you use this handy tool is demonstrated in the video along with an alternative method using a needle and thread.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.
