The Hey June Handmade Amherst is a camp style shirt with cargo styling and offers lots of classic features.
The Amherst is a lovely short sleeved shirt with classic cargo styling. The constructions details make it extra special: a button down stand collar, back yoke with pleat, integrated cuff with sleeve tab, interchangeable square or rounded patch pockets with pocket flaps and a curved shirt tail hem.
We have paired this classic pattern with 2 colour options of a sumptuously soft light weight Tencel denim fabric - light washed or indigo, for the ultimate, everyday wearable denim shirt look.
This fabric requires a bit more confidence and or experience to work with, but is definitely worth it - it feels amazing to wear!
The pattern is available in sizes 0-24, bust 33"-52".
- The PDF digital file for the Hey June Handmade Amherst Shirt* (Size range: Full Bust/chest measurement 33" to 52" - pattern also includes a front bodice pattern piece with a Full Bust Adjustment (FBA) making the bodice darted at the bust and optionally the waist line) *A coupon code will be provided with your order confirmation email to download the files from the Hey June Handmade website.
- A0 print out of the Hey June Handmade Amherst Shirt * This will include all sizes and the FBA bodice. A physical print out of the instruction booklet will NOT be included. You can view the instruction booklet on your device at home, print it out at home, or add the 'printed pattern instructions' product (see link below) to your order and we will print it for you.
- 2m of Tencel fabric in light washed or indigo denim. Please note that it's normal for some initial colour transfer to happen with the indigo colour way. This shade will naturally wash and wear in to have a lovely characterful look of a loved denim shirt.
- 0.5m of light iron on interfacing
- 1 reel Matching Gutermann Sew All ThreadPrym Sewing Machine Needles
- 2 packs of Prym Pearl Snaps (12 snaps in total)

Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to a Laurens exclusive YouTube video to be used alongside the pattern instructions.
The video has over 50 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation. The key construction steps are covered, including how work with slippery fabric like this tencel, how to get a neat finish on your garment and how to apply pearl snaps instead of buttons.

This pattern is aimed at the 'Intermediate' level. This most tricky part is constructing the collar and collar stand.
To complete this project you'll need a basic sewing tools, find out what Lauren recommends in this article.You'll need a regular sewing machine. An Overlocker is useful but not essential.
