As the days get longer and longer here in the UK, it's making excited about sewing some spring time clothes and I'm so excited to share the new fabrics we've had in recently! A new batch of fabric arrivals always gives me an inspiration boost so here are my top picks - I can't wait to see what you make with them!
I've made a little video to show how they drape and move.....or keep reading on for pictures and links.
The first collection I want to show you are these amazing modal loopback jerseys. They are so buttery and soft with a lovely drape. We've got 6 colours: a rich mustard, maroon, baby pink, sky blue, olive and navy.
They are a similar weight to the Atelier Brunette french terry fabrics (we are awaiting more stock-should be due in April) but have more drape to them. I think they would make lovely tops and dresses that have more body in the skirt section - as in either gathered like the Colette Moneta or flared or even pleated.
They are made from modal which is a type of rayon made from beech trees. I'm planning on make a colour clock Grainline Linden with the baby pink and sky blue and have already pre-washed the fabric. I used a normal cycle on the machine but changed it to 30 degrees and an 800 spin with 2 rinses, then hung it to dry as flat as I could on a clothes horse and it's come out beautifuly.
The next fabrics that have got me itching to sew are these new light weight denims and a few more prints from the Spring/Summer 17 Liberty Tana Lawn collection. The denims are such a lovely weight for this time of year and would be great for spring/summer skirts and dresses.
I love the Ros print with the darker denim and fancy making a top with the Liberty print as a collar or yoke section. They go together so nicely.
The other fun Liberty prints are 'Birds of Paradise' and 'Ibiza Berry' - the names are always so fun!
Joining the ever poplar mustard and black Atelier Brunette Bye Bye Birdie cotton lawn are two new colours...navy and terracotta. These fabrics are always a dream to sew with! They wash well, press well and are a lovely light weight. I'm making (another) Deer and Doe Melilot short sleeved shirt with the navy.
These next fabrics will definitely give you spring sewing vibes! They are cotton/linen mixes and would make amazing skirts and dresses or a kaftan beach cover up style tunic.
These floral delights are viscose and polyester (not altogether!) are would be prefect for tops and blouses. I'm planning a Scout tee with the Blue vintage florals.
The last two collections are the cutest quilting weight/medium weight cotton fabrics are would be ideal for baby projects. The 'Welcome to the World' collection from Lewis and Irene features sweet elephants with neutral, pink and blue colour ways so you've got all bases covered!
And lastly the 'Guess how much I love you' fabrics are so lovely too!
I've certainly managed to expand my sewing list after seeing this lot so I hope it's given you some inspiration too! Don't forget to share your makes with me on Instagram or Facebook, I love seeing what you've made!
Happy sewing!
