Laurens top fabric picks

to kick start your 2017 handmade wardrobe

It's been a super exciting month at g&g as we have been super busy processing so many amazing new fabrics! I love when new fabrics arrive as it just gives me a huge boost of inspiration and I want to make all the things!!

I've pulled out some of my top picks and also made a little video so you can see how they move and get more of a feel for drape and colours.

First on my list are these absolutely gorgeous French Terry Atelier Brunette Fabrics. These are a total dream! So soft and snuggly and perfect for tops, sweatshirts and I think they would work for a cosy jersey dress too. They are much lighter weight and more drapy than normal sweatshirt fabrics.

The colours are beautiful and the subtle prints on them are metallic and catch the light is a really lovely way.

Another new line from Atelier Brunette are these beautiful viscose crepes. They are seriously like silky butter in your hands! The drape and movement they have is amazing and the colours are lovely and rich. They are also a nice thickness that is not transparent so the darker colours would be suitable for trousers or skirts too.

Denims have been really popular recently, especially for jeans, skirts and of course the Cleo Dungaree dress! This lovely mustard denim and textured denim are great for those types of projects and we've re-stocked on our popular Bronze designer denim as well as some of our other favourites.

As we all long for the spring and start to think about projects for fairer weathers, these light weight denims are great for dresses like the Sew Over It vintage shirt dress or the Grainline Alder dress as well as skirts and shirts.

These lovely ribbed jerseys are good for making tops, t-shirts and dresses like the Moneta Dress and offer a bit more texture than regular plain jersey.

In the past, getting a hold of good quality ribbing for cuffs and neckbands has been really hard but these awesome bright colours (from an unnamed high end designer!) are so much fun and would make a great contrast.

We also now have 4 colours in our range of fleece backed sweatshirtings that have matching ribbing. Choose from light grey, dark grey, navy blue and cream. These fabrics are knitted on a big machine in a tube and this is how they come on the roll....tubular. It means they are super wide - the sweatshirting is a whopping 2m wide!

You can keep up to date with all our new arrivals by keeping an eye on the Just Arrived section of the website. All our new things stay there for 3 weeks, or if you are generally browsing, keep an eye our for the 'New' button in the top left hand corner as a marker for things that have just come in.

Happy Sewing!
