Gorgeous new fabrics for spring

From water resistant to viscose to cosy jersey - we've got you covered!

I'm not sure about you guys but after the glorious weather most of us got here in the UK over the Easter weekend, it's really thrown my upcoming sewing plans in the air as I realised I really fancy some new super summery things!

In my latest instalment round up of the gorgeous new fabrics we've had arrived in the shop this month, I've got lots of inspiration for you. Check out my latest Youtube video to see them up close and how they drape and move.

Stretchy Jerseys

First are these lovely single knit cotton jersey fabrics in a lovely stripy colour selection. They are really soft and perfect for layering t-shirts like the Grainline Lark Tee

These are a little more unusual as the fibre content is 30% wool and 70% tencel. They are machine washable at 30 degrees and feel like and soft with a great drape. Tencel is a bit like viscose or rayon so it has the same sort of properties, but is manufactured in a more environmentally friendly way. They would make a lovely light weight summery cardigan or a top with a fuller style like the Closet Case Patterns Ebony or Papercut Aomori Twist top

I know these next jerseys look a bit...basic...but they have a really fantastic weight to them. They are pretty sturdy and dense and hold shape and structure while still being stretchy and pliable. They would be great for the new Deer and Doe Sirocco jumpsuit pattern or a simple jersey skirt.

Pictured below left are some gorgeous soft, fleece backed sweat shirting fabric with a really eye catching metallic print. They would be great for jumpers like the Linden or Toaster

Below right are some super cute novelty cotton print jerseys. I know Sophia will love the bunny ballerinas! They are great for kids t-shirts or leggings!

Liberty delights

These next fabric delights are super exciting! We've had a big delivery of lots of new Liberty prints on lots of different base clothes. These ones are on the 'Murray Loopback' base cloth with is a cotton loopback sweatshirting fabric. It's perfect for jumpers and hoodies like the Linden, Toaster and Jarrah

These ones are also a sweatshirting fabric but this time they have a soft fleece back to them - super cosy!

Also from the Liberty range we've got a selection of other base cloths with amazing prints!

Pictured below left are a denim twill fabric with a good amount of structure. Perfect for a simple skirt like the Tilly and the Buttons Ness, a little pair of shorts like the True Bias lander shorts or the Cleo Dungaree dress

Pictured below centre are stretch cotton gaberdines. They are lighter than the denims and have a nice big of give and stretch due to the spandex content. They are great for fitted trousers like the Closet Case Patterns sashas or dresses like the Tilly and the Buttons Etta

Pictured below right are my favourites - a super special treat - its silk! So amazingly drapy and smooth, they would be great for something simple like the True Bias Ogden Cami - gorgeous!

Rifle Paper Co beautiful blooms

Sticking with the gorgeous prints theme, we've got a lovely selection from the new Rifle Paper company collection - a mix of medium weight cottons and silky smooth rayons the detail and colours in these prints is amazing.

The cottons would be great for a simple dress like the Avid Seamstress Day dress and the rayons are super versatile, great for anything from blouses, tops, dresses and skirts!

Stretch viscose prints

These lovely prints from Lady McElroy are on a really soft viscose base with just a little bit of spandex to give them slight stretch. It doesn't make them any harder to work with or anything, and you still treat them like regular woven fabric, it just means your garments are that big more comfortable as the fabric can stretch and move with you.

They are really versatile fabrics too and would suit anything from a floaty summer dress, like the new Deer and Doe Pensee to a breezy pair of culottes like the Megan Neilsen Flints

Stay Dry

The final fabric I have to share are these really funky water resistant prints - perfect for light weight spring rain coats.

It's best to keep the design simple with bold fabrics like this so I think the Tilly and the Buttons Eden or the Papercut Waver jacket are great options!

Last but by no means least are these great new stretch needle cords. In three classic colours they would make great mix and match pieces in your handmade wardrobe like the Sew Over It Ultimate pencil skirt or the Closet Case Patterns Ginger jeans
