Sewing - All levels

The G&G Stitch Academy

Do you have a crafty child who loves to use their imagination and make things? Well this half-termly after-school G&G stitch academy is the perfect place for them to get creative and learn how to use a range of textile materials and tools (including the sewing machine), to make fun and exciting craft and accessories projects.

In this weekly children's sewing class, students will learn how to:

  • Thread a sewing machine.
  • Change the settings to sew a straight and a zigzag stitch
  • Work on a range of projects that they will be proud to show off!

Sewing projects will develop and change so students can join us with no experience. If they have already attended the G&G Stitch Academy before there will be plenty of new projects to inspire them! From patchwork cushion covers to mini bunting to decorate their bedroom, to pencil cases and pyjama shorties, there will be no stopping them once they have learnt the basics.

If children are already confident and proficient in using a sewing machine to sew basic stitches with minimal supervision they may be interested in the G&G Stitch Academy - Dressmaking class. Please see here for full details.

PLEASE NOTE- If the class is showing as fully booked, please contact us at [email protected] and we can check availability. Sometimes we can experience a glitch in the website where the workshop appears as fully booked when it is not. We are fixing it as soon as possible.

About this workshop

This is a half-termly after-school craft club for children aged between 7-15 years. There are 5-7 weekly sessions per course. Regardless of age or ability, children will choose from a range of projects to further develop their sewing skills. Children will work at a pace that suits them and projects will be tailored to their own level. Certain projects may be completed within one session, others may take a few weeks to complete. There will be a skills section of most classes to teach and progress essential sewing skills.

*Please note that for larger projects such as clothing, you may need to purchase fabric to use in the class. You will be notified in advance of this so you have time to get it.

"My daughter is absolutely loving sewing and is so excited to come each week. She is eager to join the next term so I’ve signed her up again. Thank you so much for doing this - it’s an amazing life skill that I'd love to encourage!"
"She has absolutely loved the class and really enjoyed making things with the sewing machine, so much so that she is all booked up for next term!"

Lorna Hulme

Lorna is forever grateful to her Mum for teaching her to sew as an adult. She fell in love with everything sewing! So much so that she couldn’t bear to keep these skills to herself. Being driven by her passion for inspiring other people to sew, Lorna spent 7 years sharing this love of sewing through teaching others in her own sewing workshop business.

Lorna joined the Guthrie & Ghani team in January 2024 as the Workshops and events coordinator. She is responsible for organising the programme of events and sewing workshops and will be joining the team of sewing tutors too.

Lorna loves all aspects of sewing but her particular passion is dressmaking.

When she’s not sewing she enjoys running, cycling, running around after 2 teenagers and drinking hot chocolate!
