Master the Essentials of Garment-Making: Learn to take accurate measurements, understand and follow a commercial sewing pattern, and confidently cut out your chosen fabric.

Create Your Own Pyjama trousers or shorts: Using the simple yet stylish pattern from Tilly & the Buttons, you’ll make your own pair of comfy Jaimie or Joe Pyjamas, choosing between shorts or full-length trousers with an elasticated waist.
Whether you’re a newbie eager for your first garment project or a sewing enthusiast looking for a fun and satisfying make, this workshop will set you up for success!

Level 2 - Next steps Beginner Dressmaker -This class is suitable for those who already know how to set up a sewing machine and make simple projects, but are looking to try dressmaking for the first time. An ideal follow on from our 1 day complete beginners class

  • 20% discount on supplies required for the workshop (fabric & notions) - Please call the shop to order over the phone if you are unable to visit before the workshop day so that the discount can be applied.
  • 10% off any other fabrics purchased on the day of your course
  • Your own PDF copy of the TATB Jaimie Pyjama Pattern or the TATB Joe Pyjama pattern to make your own at home again and again
  • Use of all sewing machines, tools and equipment
  • Tea/coffee and biscuits (For lunch, please bring a packed lunch or visit some of the lovely local cafes)
  • Light- to medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, shirting, “quilting cotton”, flannel
  • Matching thread
  • 25mm wide elastic - length = your low waist measurement

Upon booking please get in touch via email with your waist and hip measurements and which version you would like to make and we will help guide you as to how much fabric you will need.

Please purchase your fabric before attending your class to give you chance to pre-wash it, as some fabrics shrink on their first wash. As this is your first dressmaking project, please avoid checks and stripes, and fabrics that are slippy such as viscose, and loose open weave fabrics such as double gauze. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like help selecting your fabric.

Lauren Tedstone

Lauren Tedstone is known for being a quarter finalist of series 9 of BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee. Her machine, given to her many years before by her grandmother, was finally put to use in late 2019 when Lauren taught herself to sew. Starting with small projects for her children, Lauren then went on to garment sewing and is on a journey to curate and create a complete handmade wardrobe including accessories. A big lover of fashion trends, she loves creating key timeless classics that have professional finishes and longevity. With that in mind, Lauren tends to create projects using a combination of new and well established sewing techniques and has a love of machine and hand sewing. Lauren’s aim is to share her knowledge and passion with all creatives and those wanting to learn a new skill and is very excited to be part of the G&G team.
