Telephone Canvas Bag

I love Melody Millers designs for Kokka fabric. The colours and always so vibrant and and nostalgic illustrations are so much fun!

When the Ruby Star Shining range came out last year, with the amazing typewriter print I had a bag mapped out in my mind right away. Thats what inspired the weeked bag tutorial that I blogged about last year too. I wanted a simple design that would really allow the fabric to shine though.

When her newer retro telepone fabric arrived in store I fancied another simple bag design to show off the print. Not too big, but big enough to shove papers and various other bits and bobs in when my handbag just isn't big enough. The fabric is an ideal weight too for bags as its a bit on the heavier side. I added interfacing to the outer fabric of the bag as well as I didn't want it to be too floppy.

It's just a simple rectangle with a gusset at the sides and bottom and I worked out the size of the bag based around the pattern repeat so I could make sure I would see as many full telephones as I could. I top stitched the edges at the sides to help the bag keep its shape which also helps to frame the front of the bag too.

I lined it the large yellow polka dot fabric , that I made my pencil skirt from. Its a similar weight to the telephone fabric so that helps to give the bag structure too.
