Sew Over It Ultimate trousers

in a comfy cotton lycra

Despite wearing separates a lot (i.e. jeans most of the time!) I don’t often make trousers. I think I’ve just got in fixed in my head that they take to long or are harder (and pretty impossible) to fit by yourself so I just let trouser patterns slip off my radar.

However, sometimes when a great fabric comes into the shop, it sparks an idea and then I have to carry it through. So, when this new cream and black brushstrokes cotton lycra fabric arrived I decided to just go for it and use it to make a pair of the Sew Over It Ultimate trousers.

They are slim fitting fairly high waisted trousers with an invisible side zip so all in all, pretty easy to construct. I was between an 8 and a 10 but as the fabric has quite a bit of stretch to it I decided to size down and I knew the fabric could cope with being a bit tighter.

I really like them and love the fabric too but I didn’t really consider one main thing when I made them! I very rarely wear black! In fact I only have one other black thing in my wardrobe, which is the Deer and Doe Melilot Blouse that I made a few months ago. My black shoe situation is also a bit questionable and I only have a little pair of black ankle boots, which I don’t think really go with them.

I just made the trousers straight from the pattern and I think the length is just ok and no more for me but I’m pretty sure they are supposed to be sort of ankle length as opposed to below the ankle. I think this length of trouser probably looks better with little pumps or even high-healed shoes.

So I tired styling them with colour to……

The top is a linden with some heavy weight ponte roma that I got in Mood fabrics a few years ago, which kinda matches my Orla Keily Clarkes shoes.

Apart from the black shoe situation I like both outfit combos but it probably is a bit smarter than I usually dress on a day-to-day basis. Having said that, Sophia does start nursery soon and then I’ll have a chance to have a proper full ‘work day’ so it might be nice to get a bit more dressed up for that!

Does anyone else do that? Be so set on making something only to find you don't acutally have very much else to wear with it?
