June New Fabric Arrivals

A lovely new selection of summery fabrics

As the school holidays approach for me and with the summer in full swing, we’ve had lots of gorgeous new additions to our fabric ranges in the shop - perfect for holiday makes as well as the everyday classics you know and love!

Being able to make lovely everyday wearable clothes that are made with top notch quality fabrics can make you feel great everyday as you get dressed, so I hope to inspire some new projects for you with this months selection of new fabrics!

Check out my latest YouTube video below to see them close up, how they move and drape as well as idea for what to make with them. All the fabrics I mention are linked below and don’t forget to keep up to date with the very latest new arrivals, the just arrived section is the best place to browse!

Linen based fabrics

Linen and linen blends are lovely fabrics to sew with and wear in the summer. We have added some new colours to our popular yarn dyed range of 100% linen as well as our cotton and linen stripe ranges.

The large scale gingham checks have been super popular in the navy and rose pink colourway (more of that will be available in August) so it’s lovely to see new shades in that range too!

Crisp Cotton fabrics

These textured woven stripe cotton fabrics are lovely and light weight and would feel very cool to wear in hot weather. They are a little sheer so depending on what you’re making you might want to line them - I’d suggest a cotton lawn/voile for that. Tops, blouses and shirts would be fine or you could layer up with a cotton vest/camisole if you wanted more coverage without the need to line.

The beautiful delicate dashwood cotton lawns are lovely and crisp and would be easy to work with - perfect for a top or blouse!

Ex-designer cottons

This more eclectic range of cottons are all surplus from a well know high street designer brand and are a bit more unique or out of the ordinary!
From lighter weight textured cottons, crisp shirtings and more medium weight cottons - garments made from these gorgeous fabrics will look really professional!

Vibrant Viscose Fabrics

These bright and colourful viscose prints would make stunning dresses or jumpsuits for a summer wedding or other special occasion.

Viscose Jersey prints and stripes

This range of new fabrics are all on a stretchy viscose base that has lots of drape and movement. They work really well in looser style garments due to the lovely way the hang and would also look lovely as a wrap dress style.

Classic Jersey Plains

We have added two new colours to our popular range of bamboo French Terry loopback jerseys, which debuted in the Helens Closet Dawson t-shirt Sewing Society kit in February. It's such a soft and luxurious feeling fabric to sew with and to wear.

The new range of cotton interlock fabrics is 100% cotton so all of the stretch is coming from how they have been knitted. They are a bit heavier than regular t-shirt jersey and are double sided - so no right/wrong side. They are best suited to looser styles as the lack of elastane will reduce their ability to bounce and ping back into shape once stretched.

Sportswear Fabrics

This new range of sportswear jerseys of plains and prints mix and match really well together. They would be great if you were making something with panels to give a nice contrast.

They have a really high % of elastane so are super stretch - best to use a stretch needle on the sewing machine with them to make sure your seams are extra stretchy to move with the fabric!

Happy Sewing!

Lauren
