Does anyone else want to just stay inside and sew when the days are short and the evenings often freezing and drizzly?! Well if you're in that gang, I've got lots of new fabric treats to share with you today.
My new Vlog is now up on Youtube where you can see the fabric move close up, or read on for links and pattern suggestions!
I'm gonna start at the cosy end of the spectrum with amazingly snuggly plush backed jersey fabrics. On one side they look just like normal cotton jersey and on the back is where the magic happens! They have this super soft plushy kind of fur that feels so lovely!
They'd be great for sweaters like the classic linden or a Toaster sweater (the one with the big funnel neck) or even a hoodie!
Not sure you want to wear them? Just get a meter and a half, sew some bias binding round the edge and you've got a ready made sofa snuggle blanket!
Keeping you equally as warm is the beautiful wool mix, large scale houndstooth check fabric. The back of the fabric is just as lovely as the front which makes it perfect for a coatigan style garment like the Papercut Sapporo coat! Lush!
If jumpers are your thing but your looking for something a bit more glam for this time of year then you'll love this new loopback sweat shirting with a twist!
The loopback is actually the right side of the fabric and it has this sparkly, shimmery coating on it that catches the light perfectly. Choose from blush pink tones or a mermaid green - they really are something special!
These next fabrics are great for making basics that you can layer up. They are cotton jerseys with a marl effect and have the ideal thickness and balance between stretch and stability, so they don't get all thin and transparent when you stretch them.
They'd be great for a Tilly and the Buttons Agnes top or Grainline Lark tee.
Talking of great basics, we have also now added Black to our range of modal loopback jerseys due to popular demand. This fabric is so soft and drapy!
Sticking with the jersey vibe, this lovely new black and white stripe ponte roma has such a nice weight to it! It's got the stretch needed for garments like the Tilly and the Buttons Coco top and dress, but the stability and thickness that makes it super easy to work with if you are new to stretch. I think it would also hold the shape of the funnel neck on the coco perfectly!
Sticking with stripes now, these lightweight stripy jerseys are beautiful! They are quite fine and arguably have more of a springtime vibe but they were too good to pass by, even when its November!
The thicker stripe one has a really interesting texture on the back as the yarns that have woven it have varying thickness. We also have a plain marled one which is a similar weight too.
I think they would look great as a loose oversized garment like the Grainline Hemlock tee (which is a free PDF pattern you can download - follow this link).
I love it when we find cute baby printed jerseys, they make me want to go back to the babygrow days! These sweet prints would be great for making the Two stitches baby grow pattern, which also looks great cut into a top - just simple cut the legs off!
The last new fabrics to fit it with our stretch category are these unusual active wear fabrics that have the most amazing colour combinations! They would be perfect for some knockout leggings or a gym top!
Moving onto more glam fabrics now, I wanted to show you this absolutely beautiful lace that I keep going to bed dreaming about. It's so pretty and the pointed edge is such a nice detail that could be worked into a hem or a seam along the yoke section of a top or dress.
It is very sheer and would need lining, but out new range of plain viscose fabrics are great for that. We have 5 colours all together so if you are looking for another option to line tops or even dresses and skirts this feels lovely against the skin.
For a more striking garment this bold mustard jacquard fabric would be prefect for a statement skirt or trousers like the Sew Over It Ultimate trousers.
Finally I've got some lovely buttery crepes to show you - patterned and plain. These are really versatile fabrics but think flowy, loose styles that may have quite a bit of fabric in them as the crepes will hand perfectly.
Wide leg trousers like the Megan Neilsen flints would look stunning, or the Deer and Doe Azare Skirt. The Sew Over It Eve dress or Deer and Doe Aubepine would look great!
