I've been getting excited about more autumnal projects recently and with lots of lovely new seasonal fabric arrivals over the past few weeks I thought it was about time I shared some of them with you too!
You can check out my latest YouTube video where I show you how they move and drape, but read on for direct links to the fabrics and close up pictures.
Or, browse our Just Arrived section which is the most up to date place to see what new!
The first highlights I wanted to show you are these gorgeous autumnal cotton lawns. They are great for transitional garments that you can mix and match with layering as they are light in weight, but definitely have an autumn feel about them in colour and design.
They'd be great for tops and blouses like the new Grainline Hadley top, Deer and Doe Melilot or Bruyere shirt or the Sewaholic Oakridge or Granville shirt. You can see all of our tops and shirt patterns in this link.
These ones have gorgeous blue tones. I love the blue palm print one and despite already have a Closet Case Patterns Kalle shirt in the pink version of this fabric, I'm planning a Grainline Hadley top with the blue colourway.
We've had this beautiful print before on a viscose spandex base but this time it's back on a cotton lawn with a gorgeous blue back ground! Love it!
Sticking with lighter weight fabrics these new viscose prints are perfect for tops and blouses too. They have such amazing drape and feel really, really soft. They work well with designs that are loose fitting or have gathers and the fabric will just hang beautifully in that style. We've just had the Deer and Doe Hoya blouse arrive in store and these would be perfect for that.
The last fabrics in the lighter weight category are these lovely polyester crepes that drape and flow like molten butter. They are so perfect for a more dressy top or fancy dress where the fabric will have a chance to drape and float. My Youtube video is the best place to see these beauties in action!
While we are on the topic of more fancy garments....our sequins have arrived!! Yay! This year we've got 6 amazing colours, all as glitzy as the next. For a simple top, the Grainline Scout tee is a good option. I have also used them in the past to make a top version of the Sew Over It Ultimate shift dress, which worked well and is good if you want more shape around the bust as it has a dart.
The next selection of fabrics are lovely and cosy! Our new range of wool rich boucle fabrics are perfect for those sturdy, more structured winter coats like the Closet Case Patterns Clare Coat.
These beautiful boucle fabrics have so much lovely texture. The burnt orange and brown is so warm and snuggly, its looser weave makes it a more pliable fabric than the boucles above so it would be better suited to slouchy garments like the Grainline Driftless cardigan. Or, if you added more stability with an interlining or interfacing it could work for something more structured.
The navy and white boucle is really unusual but gorgeous and has a denser weave than the orange one but is still quite floppy and pliable. It's more bulky texture would be suited to an over garment as well. The Grainline Morris blazer would be a nice option!
These fabrics are light weight wools so they drape and move much more. This makes them best suited to skirts and dresses or more casual blazers/jackets. The Deer and Doe Azara skirt would be a lovely option for them, or a simple lined shift dress like the Sew Over It Ultimate Shift.
I hope you've found that inspiring! Happy Sewing!
