Beautiful new fabric arrivals

Feb 2019

It's my first new fabrics video of 2019 and I'm really excited to share all the new arrivals we have had so far this year. For those of you who can't make it into our actual shop here in Birmingham, I hope these posts and videos help to give you a good idea of what the fabrics and like and spark ideas of what to do with them!

Check out my latest Youtube video to see the fabrics close up and how they move and drape...

New viscose fabrics

The first range of fabrics I've got to share are all viscose fabrics, making them perfect for a range of dressmaking projects from tops, blouses and dresses to skirts and culottes.

To find even more inspiration on how best to use this type of fabrics, check out my fabric focus post on slippery and floaty fabrics (link here).

The first little group of fabric I want to show you is the beautiful new range from Atelier Brunette. These fabrics are 100% viscose with a diamond texture woven into the fabric. It really catches the light and the fabric drapes and moves beautifully.

I've already used the chestnut colourway to make the Grainline Archer shirt and it works really well with the loose style of garment. It's perfect for tops and blouses and would be lovely for tunics and dresses too but you'd probably want to line it.

Another addition to the Atelier Brunette range is the super popular moonstone print in a lovely mustard colourway (pictured below) I've seen so many beautiful things made from this print from the Megan Neilsen Flint culottes to the Sudley blouse

We have also added more viscose bindings to co-ordinate with the posie, shine and tabby prints.

Finally we are expecting the new colour way of the popular stardust double gauze in a gorgeous rich amarante colour. It's due for delivery the day I publish this post, so if you're an early bird, check back later to find it in the just arrived section.

Adding to our range of Liberty fabrics are these new pandora viscose prints. It's the first time I've known liberty to print onto viscose and I think it makes a nice change to see their lovely prints on a different base cloth.

Lesley who works in the shop has used the Fizz pop print to make a lovely Deer and Doe Melilot blouse

Other Liberty Base clothes

These stretch cotton gaberdine liberty prints are another interesting base cloth to work with and offer up a different range of garments you can make with these classic designs.

I've got a pair of Sasha trousers on the go at the moment using the tiger lily print. They would also be great for a more fitted style of dress such as the Tilly and the Buttons Etta dress

We've also added to our range of the classic Liberty Tana Lawns with prints from the Spring Summer 2019 range and from the updated classics range. Follow this link to see them all!

They are perfect for shirts and blouses like the Closet Case Kalle Shirt or the Cashmerette Harrison Shirt

Tencel Twills

Tencel is a fabric that is really similar to rayon and viscose is they way that it drapes and moves. It's just produced in a more environmentally 'closed loop' way where all the waste and by products are recovered and reused.

This new range of twill fabrics have a nice heavier weight, while still being very fluid and slippery. It makes the fabric so versatile and they can be used for so many things from tops to dresses, skirts, jumpsuits and trousers.

We will now be stocking 5 different colours in this range on a regular basis and plan to add more tencel fabrics over the coming months.

Art Gallery Rayon and Kokka weaves

This gorgeous floral meadow print was super popular in the navy colourway and now we have it in teal! It's so soft and silky and the colours are so vibrant! It's perfect for a whole range or garments from tops and blouses to dress and skirts.

We also have this amazing embroidered double gauze with stars and comets on it along with a yarn dyed woven dobby cotton that has a really delicate cross woven into the fabric and an interesting geometric design on the reverse that you could use as a contrast.

Cute Jersey Prints

This adorable selection of soft cotton Micheal Miller jerseys are Peter Pan themed. Thy would make really cute kids t-shirts, dresses, PJ's or a little baby grow.

New Patterns

We've also added lots of new indie sewing patterns to our collection!

Back in stock

These popular fabrics are also now back in stock too!

Our range of Millerain waxed cotton canvas fabrics that are perfect for jackets like the Closet Case Kelly and Papercut Patterns Waver anorak. We've also got co-ordinating openended zips too!

The burgundy cosy colours fleece back sweatshirting and wide stripe navy and white cotton loopback fabrics have also been topped up. These are lovely fabrics to work with and so cosy to wear. Both would be perfect for a Sew House Seven Toaster!
