Ayaz - learning to sew!!??

After being open for just over a month now, me and Ayaz are starting to settle a bit more into the swing of things in the shop.
Although he has his own doctor job that he gets on with during the week when I have a workshop at the weekend he helps lucy out in the shop. He seems to be really enjoying it so far, chatting to people and making coffees from his beloved coffee machine.
It's great and I'm so pleased that he is getting so involved in helping me out to run the shop but there is a limit to his talents. He can't sew - at all! Actually he might correct me on that as he originally trained as a surgeon, but sewing up people is very different form sewing fabric.

Things got serious when he started to jump in with phrases like 'yeh that fabric will drape really well' when I was chatting to customers and advising them on their next sewing project. The last straw was when he tried to explain to someone how to make a fabric flower and the customer said 'Sorry I don't quite understand, can you explain that again please?' For the record - he has never made any fabric flowers! In the end I told him, if you want to chat to customers and advise them about sewing then you need to be able to do it yourself.

So, tomorrow night, Ayaz will be taking his first sewing lesson and will be making a tote bag in the beginners sewing workshop! He has said he wants to make me a dress too so over the next few weeks or so he'll be joining in on one of the make a summer day dress workshops too!

I'll get him to report back on his experience!
