A classic jacket that will pair with everything in your wardrobe, this Sewing Society kit includes everything you need to make the Sew Over It Sorrento Jacket.
The quintessential denim jacket, Sorrento is a classic piece in anyone’s wardrobe. Designed to look great paired with anything from trousers to dresses, the Sorrento Jacket is the perfect throw-on for spring or for when summer evenings turn chilly.
Sorrento features everything you’d expect from a denim jacket including a front and back yoke, chest pockets, collar, cuffs, and waistband tabs – all finished with neat double lines of topstitching. With tonnes of details and a clever construction, Sorrento is an enjoyable, hugely rewarding project that you’ll love for years to come.
To give a twist to this classic jacket, we've included the choice of two different fabrics (in three different colours): iconic Cone Mills selvedge denim or gorgeous ex-designer Italian corduroy. The corduroy kits also include the option to make the collar from snuggly shearling fabric.
An exclusive for the Sewing Society, the Sorrento Jacket is usually only available as part of Sew Over It's Summer Dreaming eBook. If you'd love to own all of the coordinating eBook patterns then this kit also includes a discount code to get the four additional patterns for 50% off.
We have chosen three different fabrics for these kits, which are all 100% cotton: Raw indigo Cone Mill Selvedge denim, Campari red corduroy and toffee corduroy.
The amazing selvedge denim included is sourced directly from the Cone Mills Factory. Their denim is renowned for it's superior quality!
This is a 10oz 100% narrow cotton denim and it comes in a raw form. This means it will naturally fade and develop character and wear in over time. In the top tips videos that come with this kit, Lauren will also show you how you can optionally distress your denim with Rit colour remover or bleach to achieve a lighter shade of denim. The modelled samples are how the fabric looks after a regular pre wash in the washing machine.
The beautifully soft, mid-weight corduroy we've chosen is ex-designer fabric and was made at a mill in Italy. It comes in two irresistible colours: a pink-toned Campari red and a warm-hued toffee. It has a wale count of 11 and the gsm is 270.
The cosy shearling which is included in the corduroy kits is made from 70% cotton and 30% polyester.
The shearling is only included in the corduroy kits as we found that when washed the colour was affected too much by the indigo denim.
This pattern is available in two size ranges: UK 6-20 (B Cup) and UK 18-30 (D Cup). If you are unsure about what dressmakers cup size you are, please check out this article and note that it is different to what bra size you might wear.
The full size charts, including finished measurements, can be viewed in the gallery above.

A physical print out of the instruction booklet will NOT be included. You can view the instruction booklet on your device at home, print it out at home, or add the 'printed pattern instructions' product (see link below) to your order and we will print it for you.
Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to Lauren's exclusive YouTube videos to be used alongside the pattern instructions.
She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to work with corduroy, how to cut out selvedge denim, advice for perfect topstitching, how to sew buttonholes, how to attach jeans buttons and much more!
The two videos have over 45 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.
This kit also includes BONUS access to Lauren's video on how to distress denim using Rit colour remover and bleach, originally included with the Dawn jeans kit.
The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference.
This pattern is aimed at intermediate to advanced level dressmakers. The construction itself is fairly straightforward, but there are some areas that require precision, such as the collar insertion and topstitching.
The instructions that come with the pattern are very detailed and Lauren's top tips videos include lots of advice on the trickier elements of construction.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
An overlocker is beneficial for finishing off the seam allowances. Please note that you may need additional thread if you are doing this on the regular sewing machine.
We highly recommend the Prym Vario Pliers for attaching the buttons onto this project. It will give you much better control for greater accuracy.
If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.
Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.
