Narva Coat Kit

Keep snuggly and warm this season, October's Sewing Society kit contains everything you need to make the ideal winter Hey June Narva Coat!

Tick an item off your sewing bucket list with the Narva Coat! The Narva Coat is a great introduction to coat making, with a simple style and straightforward construction. It can be dressed up smart over a dress but looks just as good over jeans for walking the dog.

Narva is a knee-length coat with a full lining and two part sleeves. It features an angled lapel which can be left smooth or sewn with an optional decorative notch. There's also options for pockets; choose in-seam pockets for a simpler make or go all out with sleek welt pockets.

Narva is designed to be worn open but can be cinched in with the optional belt to help keep drafts out! The belt is then held in place with delicate thread chain belt loops. Lauren also shows you how to make the belt narrower (as on the Seafoam and Berry Sorbet samples).

The videos for this kit are packed full of lots of extra techniques that teach you practical tailoring techniques which Lauren used as an addition to the pattern instructions. Learn how to draft reinforcement pieces for shoulders, back and hems, how to create a welt pocket support, how to adjust shoulder pads for a customised fit and techniques for securing the coat layers together without topstitching.

The fabrics for this kit are all beautifully soft boiled wools, which are squishy and snuggly to wear. Get your wardrobe ready for winter by making the perfect outer wear piece that will keep you stylish, as well as cosy and warm!

Please note, the kits include enough interfacing to partially interface the coat, as done on the Pine Green and Seafoam samples. The Berry Sorbet sample was fully interfaced, which Lauren discusses further in her videos.

For this kit we've chosen boiled wool fabric in three gorgeous colours: pine green, seafoam and berry sorbet.

This 100% wool fabric has all the benefits you'd expect from wool - it keeps you warm without overheating, it's breathable and it's naturally antibacterial.

Boiled wool behaves a little more like a knit, in that it has some stretch to it and so is really comfortable to wear. It it fairly lofty too, which adds to it's insulating properties, and is soft to the touch.

To pair with each fabric we've chosen three 100% viscose fabrics, which make the ideal lining. The pink and sage lining colourways are slightly heavier weight than the champagne and are also ex-designer deadstock.

To see the fabric close up check out the video in the main gallery above by swiping left.

Hey June rate this pattern as suitable for confident beginners or intermediate dressmakers, especially if sewing the in seam pockets rather than the welt pocket.

However, with the thicker fabric boiled wool fabric and extra tailoring techniques, we'd recommend this kit for intermediate makers.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.

A wooden clapper is highly recommended and is very helpful for pressing the wool fabric to get a crisp, clean finish on your coat.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.

Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.

This kit is available for immediate dispatch.
