A chic dress or top with a graceful silhouette, this kit includes everything you need to make the Josephine Dress & Top from Fibre Mood!
Josephine is an elegant dress and top pattern with a beautiful V-shaped keyhole neckline and plenty of gorgeous details. The dress features a subtle blousy fitting bodice which is gathered into a sleek a-line skirt and closed with an invisible side seam zip.
With a nod to vintage style, the pretty jewel neckline is finished off with dainty bias binding and secured at the back with a simple hook and eye.
Josephine has 3/4 length bishop sleeves which are gathered into narrow barrel cuffs and finished with neat little buttons. The buttons we've included have been professionally covered in fabric from the kits, meaning your buttons will perfectly match your garment!
As well as version 1 of Josephine dress, the pattern can also be used to make a top or a long relaxed fitting dress, without a zip (version 2). In her video Lauren shows you how to make this simple pattern alteration to have the possibility of three different garments from one pattern!
A matching belt can be made to wear with either dress version of Josephine and Lauren also shows you how to make delicate thread chain belt loops to keep it securely in place.
The viscose twill fabrics we've included in this kit are the perfect pairing for the pattern and are printed with richly coloured abstract prints. An easy style to wear, Josephine will make you feel instantly put together - be that for a day in the office, an autumnal wedding, or simply drinks out with friends!
Version 1 of the dress is shown along with the top in the modelled pictures, but the kits include enough fabric to make any view.
In this kit we've included three gorgeous prints on a viscose twill base: Navy Scattered Flowers [large flowers], Navy Ditsy Petals [small flowers] and Autumnal Confetti.
These fabric designs and prints have been coloured and scaled to our own specification and have been produced in France especially for the Sewing Society. The fabric is a viscose twill, making it more of a medium weight fabric and ideal for dressmaking. It's nice and opaque and more stable to work with than a lightweight viscose!
The twill nature of the weave gives a subtle texture to the fabric, which is 100% viscose. The buttons included are covered with the exact fabric from each kit and make a great finishing touch.
To see the fabrics close up check out the video in the main gallery above by swiping left.
We also recommend ensuring that you have sharp and/or fine pins, like the ones linked below, along with fine, sharp hand-sewing needles as this type of fabric can snag easily with blunt pins and needles. Check out the what you will need section below for more details.
This pattern is available in sizes: 4-32 (bust 30-57", hips 34-57").
Finished bust measurement for the garment ranges from 37" to 60".

A physical print out of the instruction booklet will NOT be included. You can view the instruction booklet on your device at home, print it out at home, or add the 'printed pattern instructions' product (see link below) to your order and we will print it for you.
Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to Lauren’s exclusive YouTube video to be used alongside the pattern instructions.
She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to sew the neck binding with a hand sewn finish, how to lengthen the bodice, how to sew gathers, how to insert an invisible zip, how to attach a hook & eye, how to create thread chain belt loops and much more!
The video has over 38 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.
The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference.
Fibre Mood rate the skill level for the Josephine Dress & Top as 3/5 it includes elements such as a narrow neckline binding, an invisible zip and cuffs with bound openings. These steps are of course covered in Lauren's top tips video and the top and version 2 of the dress don't require a zip.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
An overlocker is helpful for finishing the raw edges of the fabric, but a regular sewing machine can also be used for this.
A tailor’s ham is useful for pressing the neckline, but a rolled up towel can also be used. If you want to make V2 of the dress you will need to significantly lengthen your pattern pieces - scrap paper can be used for this or you can purchase pattern paper below.
We also recommend ensuring that you have sharp and/or fine pins, like the ones linked below, along with fine, sharp hand-sewing needles as this type of fabric can snag easily with blunt pins and needles.
If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product. Please note that a PDF copy of the digital A0 & A4 pattern files are not included in this kit - only the A0 print out.
