The Ultimate Dressmakers Gift Guide 2023

Whether you are looking for a special treat for yourself or ideas for gifting to loved ones this festive season I'm rounding up my top picks in the post and video of all my favourite sewing and dressmaking tools and gadgets.

That's the great thing about learning how to sew and make your own clothes....there is always something new to discover, a technique, a tool, a gadget or a different way to do things. So I'm sure from the eager beginner to the seasoned dressmaker will find something that catches their eye!

See my ideas up close and find out how to use them in my latest Youtube video! They are all linked below to make it super easy to find them!

Cutting to the point

A sharp pair of fabric scissors is essential when sewing and dressmaking. From fabric shears or a rotary cutter to cut out your fabric, to smaller snips for threads and small details and trimming seam allowances, having the right scissors can really make a difference when you are working on your projects.

Tools that measure up to the task

From taking body measurements to checking hem and seam allowances and marking in stitch guide lines, having the right tools to hand will help you to be nice and accurate when sewing, making it easier to fit all your pieces together in the right way!

The dressmaking tools you never knew you needed

Even if you have a well stocked sewing kit, there is always room for fun new notions and gadgets, especially when they look fun like the Birdy Needle Threader!

Magic Magnets

Keeping track of your pins as you sew is super handy and with so many options from a fun cat magnet to stick on your machine to colourful pin magnets and our natural beechwood pin block there is lots of choice!

Super Sewing Gadgets

Adding finishing touches to your projects such as press studs, rivets, buttons and eyelets is now even easier with a choice of two different Prym gadgets - the vario pliers and the new Creative tool! The pliers make precision easier over using a basic hammer, but you still need a fair amount of grip strength. Or opt for the Creative tool for the combination of precision and low effort/force required to securely fix any fastening to your project!

Clip it together

With thicker, quilted fabrics becoming more popular to sew with, these clips can make securing your fabric sections together much easier than using traditional pins with thick layers of fabric. Keep them organised in a fun flower shaped case, or opt for the combo heart case, already filled with lots of clips!

Tool boxes for your creativity

Not only is it handy to be organised with your sewing tools, but keeping them looking pretty in a nice box is a great idea, especially if you used a shared space in your home for sewing! Whether you need an empty box to keep your things together, or are after a new set of all the basics we've got lots of options for you!

Press ahead with your projects

Pressing and ironing is key to getting a nice finish on your sewing projects and these gadgets will help you do just that! From 'hams' to 'clappers' - these are the items you didn't know you needed until you start using them!

Make it personal

Adding in a fun woven label to your sewing projects is a great way to mark it as something really special, whether you are keeping it for yourself or gifting it to a loved one. With our wide range of quirky and colourful designs from Kylie and the Machine, there is lots to choose from!

Get organised

From labelling your stash fabrics and organising your needles to keeping track of thread reels and matching bobbins, storing sewing patterns that won't quite fit into their original packaging and recording your projects, there are lots of ways to stay on top of your hobby with these organisation accessories!
