Coco Top Kit

A classic top that will never go out of style? Yes please! February’s kit contains everything you need to make the Coco Top from Tilly and the Buttons.

Is there anything more classic than a Breton style top? We don’t think so! The Coco top is truly a timeless item of clothing.

Coco features a gently shaped boat neckline and options for three-quarter and full length sleeves. The fit of the top means it skims the body without clinging, so you can wear it on its own or pop it over layers for more warmth.

The hem features a lovely split detail and has a slight a-line shape to it. In her top tips video Lauren discusses how to reduce this if you’d prefer a more fitted shape (as we did on the ginger, salmon and sage samples).

And of course it wouldn’t be a Breton style top if there weren't stripes! We’ve got four colours of this lovely French Terry to choose from which is a really nice weight for the top and is super soft.

This may look like a simple garment, but we’ve included lots of extras to make it more unique and to help to develop your skills. For a professional finish we’ve added twill tape into the back neckline and at the hem split in playful contrasting colours. We’ve also included stretchy maraflex thread for your seams and Stretchfix to make hemming a breeze!

All kits contain enough fabric to make the boat neck top version of the pattern, with any length sleeve.

For this kit we’ve chosen four colours of this lovely French Terry: Navy, Salmon Pink, Sage and Ginger

French Terry is a knitted fabric with a smooth outer side and a characteristic ‘looped back’. With a weight of 230gsm this fabric makes the ideal Breton tee; a little thicker than your average t-shirt but lighter than a jumper. The fabric is knitted with yarn dyed thread, which means the stripes are visible on both sides and none of the density of colour is lost if the fabric is stretched.

The fabric is 95% cotton and 5% elastane, so is comfortable to wear and breathable, whilst also having great stretch and recovery.

To see the fabrics close up check out the video in the main gallery above by swiping left.

This pattern is available in UK sizes 6-34 (this is Tilly and the Buttons’ sizes 1-15). Bust 30-60”, waist 24-53”.

The full size charts, including finished measurements, can be viewed in the gallery above - please note there is negative ease included in this pattern due to the stretchy fabric.

Alongside the purchase of this kit you will receive access to Lauren’s exclusive YouTube video to be used alongside the pattern instructions.

She shares her hints and tips on getting a really lovely finish on your garment including how to cut out and match striped fabric, how to use Stretchfix, how to add twill tape to the back neckline, how to finish the hem split with twill tape and much more!

The video has over 37 minutes of footage, sectioned out with time stamps/chapters for easy reference and navigation.

The link to the video will be contained in your order confirmation email along with the pdf files, please file this safely for future reference.

This pattern is aimed at confident beginner dressmakers.

Adding the twill tape at the neckline and hem split does make this kit more of an intermediate project, but these steps can be skipped if desired. They are of course covered in detail in Lauren’s top tips video.

To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.

An overlocker can be helpful for finishing the raw edges of the fabric, but this is not essential.

If you would like a printed copy of the instructions sent out with your kit, in addition to the PDF copy that you will receive, please see the related products below and add it to your cart as a separate product.

Your kit will be wrapped in tissue and beautifully presented in recyclable packaging.

These kits are available for immediate dispatch.
