Inject a little bohemian charm into your wardrobe with the Nicks Top. With soft gathering and delicate finishing touches it is a pleasure to sew and even lovelier to wear.
The top features a relaxed V shaped neckline with gentle gathers at the shoulders and across the back. The sleeve has a soft puff at the shoulder and can be made as a pretty short sleeve or as a long sleeve with wrist pleats for shaping and an elastic gathered cuff. Choose between two neckline finishes: a sleek topstitched facing or a bias-bound finish, which is complemented by delicate rouleau button loops at the centre front. We have included fabric covered buttons with this kit to add an extra special touch that highlights the beautiful fabric.
As well as feeling effortlessly stylish, the Nicks Top is wonderfully comfortable. The swing tunic with its gathered tier and the softly draped blouse are both fitted at the shoulders while still having plenty of ease through the bodice for a breezy fit.
What makes this kit truly unique is the gorgeous, soft EcoVero viscose fabrics designed by Lauren in collaboration with Rachel Parker. Our Bee Happy Blooms and Chicacheetah prints are both filled with colour and detail that will add a little joy to your wardrobe - just what you need for some January sewing!
This kit includes enough fabric to make the short sleeve tunic or the long sleeve blouse.
Please note if you would like to order other items with this kit, please place a separate order as we're unable to hold other items until we ship the kits in January. Extra postage may be charged if other items are ordered at the same time and we have to dispatch these items earlier. Any questions please feel free to email us.
This kit is available in two of our exclusive Guthrie & Ghani prints: Cream Bee Happy Blooms & Teal Chicacheetah
Both prints were created by Lauren in collaboration with surface pattern designer Rachel Parker. The Bee Happy Blooms print represents important elements of Lauren's life and the g&g story, such as plants with her children's names, the Lauren Peony and a cute little bumble bee. The soft cream base colour makes the print pop while keeping a sophisticated look that works beautifully across seasons.
The vibrant Chicacheetah print features a beautiful teal background with pops of bright colours from fuchsia, navy blue, to aqua and white. This print was inspired by the popular animal print trend but with an explosion of colour added in!
Both designs are printed on an EcoVero™ viscose base that is beautifully soft. It has a plain weave that gives a smooth finish with the gorgeous drape and movement you would expect from a viscose fabric.
EcoVero™ viscose is a more sustainable fibre due to the unique methods used for its production. The fibres are derived from sustainable wood sources and the manufacturing cycle has been developed to drastically reduce the environmental impact compared to traditional viscose production.

This pattern is available in two size ranges: US 0-20 (B Cup) and US 14-32 (D Cup). If you are unsure about what dressmakers cup size you are, please check out this article and note that it is different to what bra size you might wear.
We think it's worth noting that this pattern has a LOT of positive ease - that means it's designed to be fitted loose on the body. If you prefer a closer fit then you might consider sizing down by 1-2 sizes. There is more guidance on this in Lauren's hints and tips video. In the modelled images the samples have been sized down by 2 sizes.

This pattern is aimed at intermediate sewers due to the accuracy needed for certain parts of construction such as the rouleau loops and the gathered shoulder seam section that fits into the lined back yoke.
The slippery viscose fabric does add a level of trickiness to this project, though Lauren's videos are packed with extra tips on making the fabric as easy to work with as possible.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
A walking foot for your sewing machine is useful for working with the viscose fabric and a pressing cloth will help protect the fabric during ironing.
A loop turner (linked above) also makes creating the rouleau loops for the buttons much easier and how you use this handy tool is demonstrated in the video, along with an alternative method using a needle and thread.
