Meet the Caiplie Jacket, the latest sewing pattern from G&G! The Caiplie Jacket is a relaxed, fully lined jacket with a subtle cocoon shape, combining easy everyday wear with beautiful construction details. Finishing around the hip, Caiplie has a slightly dropped shoulder and an easy, roomy fit, with shaped bands at the body and sleeve hems drawing the silhouette gently back in.
A distinctive tall collar frames the neckline and can be worn standing up for a cosy, structured look or folded down to create a softer, lapel-style shape. Choose between statement 25mm buttons or sew-on snaps for the front closure.
Curved princess seams create the jacket's shape and incorporate two generous front pockets, while the back panels extend around towards the front to create Caiplie's distinctive seam lines.
The jacket is fully lined, giving you a beautifully finished garment inside and out – as well as the perfect opportunity to add a contrasting print or pop of colour to the inside.
There's also an optional internal welt pocket, cleverly incorporated into the facing and generously sized to keep your phone and other essentials close to hand.

Sew along with Lauren as she demonstrates each stage of making your Caiplie and shares her extra tips and advice along the way. Used alongside the fully illustrated pattern instructions, you'll be able to see the different techniques demonstrated as you work through your jacket.

Caiplie's clean lines and cocoon shape work particularly well in medium-to-heavyweight fabrics with enough structure to hold the silhouette.
We developed the pattern alongside our new Cairn Circles 100% cotton jacquard, a substantial 340gsm textured fabric woven exclusively for G&G in Portugal. Its weight and structure work beautifully with the shape of Caiplie, while the large-scale woven circles show off the jacket's distinctive panel lines.
Other suitable fabrics include medium-to-heavyweight wools and wool blends, as well as boiled wool. Your fabric choice gives you lots of scope to change the character of the jacket, from a more textural statement version to a simple, versatile everyday layer.
For the lining, choose a lightweight woven fabric that will sit smoothly inside the jacket. We've used our fluid Wild Rowan and Afterlight viscose fabrics to line our Cairn Circles samples, bringing all three fabrics from our Scottish-inspired Autumn/Winter collection together.
