The Oxbow Trousers are a modern and relaxed alternative to classic jeans and are a great choice if you have never sewn denim trousers before. They are simpler to make than most traditional jeans patterns but still include many of the definitive jeans features we all love.
At the front there is a clean and straightforward zip fly with classic topstitching details. The design also includes patch pockets and you can choose between two sizes depending on the style you want. The larger pockets are caught in the side seam and are roomy enough for your phone while the smaller option gives the trousers a lovely seventies inspired feel.
The trousers are fitted through the waist hips and upper thighs and then fall into straight legs that are wide without being too voluminous. There is an option to make a cropped trouser which is narrower at the knee to create a gentle flared shape. At the back darts add shaping and there are large patch pockets for a true jeans style finish.
The curved waistband can be finished with a traditional flush edge or you can choose an extended tab for a little extra interest. The instructions include guidance on where to add topstitching and how to sew flat felled seams for a professional and durable finish.
The wide leg shape makes these trousers easier to fit than tapered styles which makes them the ideal first pair if you are ready to try sewing your own jeans.

There's two fabric options for this kit: Black Washed Cotton Denim or Mid Blue Cotton Denim
These non-stretch fabrics are perfect for trousers and hold the wide leg shape of the Oxbows well. The black denim is 320gm and the mid blue is 340gsm, making them very durable. Both of the fabrics have the classic twill weave that jeans are known for.
The black denim has been treated with a washed finish for a softened feel. It differs from traditional denim in how it's been woven, as both the warp and weft threads are black, making the colour deeply saturated.
The mid blue fabric is a classic denim colour which will soften with every wash and develop its own unique character. This versatile shade will give your trousers the look of traditional jeans, with a modern twist.
Both of the fabrics are woven from 100% cotton and are OEKO-TEX certified.
To see the fabrics close up check out the video in the main gallery above. Please note, the black denim is slightly different to the fabric used in the sampled photos - more information is provided in the kit.

Sew House Seven describe the Oxbow pattern as suitable for intermediate dressmakers.
Techniques include sewing darts, sewing a zip fly, topstitching, sewing patch pockets and buttonholes and working with thick fabric.
To complete this project successfully you'll need a regular sewing machine along with Lauren's essential recommended sewing tools.
If you don't have an overlocker and plan to use the same thread for finishing off seam allowances, we suggest you purchase an extra reel of sew-all thread or use a similar shade left over from another project.
