Cairn Circles is an exclusive G&G cotton jacquard inspired by the mysterious prehistoric rock art found across the Scottish landscape. Woven in Portugal from 100% cotton, its overlapping circles and connecting forms are created within the structure of the cloth itself, giving the fabric a wonderfully tactile, layered surface.
Cairn Circles is the final design in our Scottish-inspired Autumn/Winter fabric collection, following Wild Rowan, inspired by the folklore and symbolism surrounding Scotland's rowan trees, and Afterlight, which looks to the skies above. Cairn Circles brings the story back to the landscape itself, taking inspiration from the ancient marks people left behind.
In the Midnight Black colourway, the tonal design allows the woven circles to appear and disappear across the cloth as the texture changes and catches the light. Smooth areas naturally crinkle against the more textured stitches that form the circular motifs, creating lots of depth and interest despite the fabric being a single colour.
At 340gsm, Cairn Circles is a substantial cotton jacquard with a lovely weight and structure. Despite its heavier weight and highly textured surface, it still feels beautifully soft.
One of the things we particularly love about Cairn Circles is how the fabric develops after its first wash. Pre-washing softens the cotton further and allows the different woven structures within the jacquard to relax in slightly different ways. The smoother sections naturally crinkle around the more textured circular motifs, bringing out even more of the fabric's tactile, dimensional quality.
We've used Cairn Circles for our new Caiplie Jacket, where the shape of the jacket shows off the beautiful texture of the fabric - see the gallery for modelled pictures!
We recommend pre-washing Cairn Circles before cutting out your project, both to pre-shrink the cotton and to allow its characteristic texture to develop before you sew. Please allow approximately 6% shrinkage for this fabric.
