Behind the Fabric: The Story of the Cosy Adventures Brushed-Back French Terry

Cosy Adventures, our exclusive Guthrie & Ghani brushed-back French terry, printed with the most charming gathering of British wildlife, all wrapped up for winter.

As the weather cools and the nights start to draw in, I always find myself reaching for softer fabrics and slower projects — the kind that make you want to pop the kettle on and settle in for some cosy sewing time.

When I started designing our new Cosy Adventures fabric, I wanted to create something that captured that exact feeling — soft, snuggly, full of character, and perfect for festive sewing without being overly Christmassy.

Introducing our exclusive Guthrie & Ghani brushed-back French terry, printed with the most charming gathering of British wildlife, all wrapped up for winter.

Here me chat about it in my latest Youtube Video and scroll on for all the details and inspiration behind the design.

The Idea and Inspiration

I’ve always loved the sense of togetherness that winter brings — long walks, family time, that comforting rhythm of home life. I wanted this fabric to reflect that warmth, but also to celebrate the landscapes and wildlife that make up the four nations of Great Britain.

So, Cosy Adventures features eleven different animals, each chosen to represent a corner of the UK. They’re playful, bundled up in scarves and hats, and all drawn with a touch of whimsy that I hope makes you smile every time you sew with it. It’s a nod to British wildlife, but also to the fun, nostalgic side of winter — a print that feels festive, but still wearable well into the new year.

Why I Love This Fabric

For me, Cosy Adventures is about more than just a print, it’s about the feeling it brings when you sew with it. It’s warm, joyful and just a little bit nostalgic. It reminds me that handmade things are often at the heart of our cosiest memories, whether that’s Christmas morning in matching PJs, lazy winter weekends, or quiet evenings spent stitching something for someone you love.

I hope you enjoy sewing with it as much as I’ve loved bringing it to life.

Meet the Animals of Cosy Adventures

Each little creature in the print has its own story, inspired by the wildlife native to each nation of Great Britain.

England

🦉 Barn Owl – With its heart-shaped face and soft white plumage, the barn owl is one of England’s most enchanting night-time sights. It drifts silently over hedgerows and fields, a symbol of wisdom and serenity in folklore. Wrapped in its tiny knitted hat, our owl reminds us to pause and appreciate the stillness of winter evenings.

🦊 Fox – Cunning, curious and full of personality, the red fox is woven deeply into English folklore and countryside life. Whether glimpsed darting through woodland or padding along city lanes, it’s a creature of adaptability and charm. In our print, he’s curled up contentedly in a striped scarf — the picture of cosy mischief.

🦡 Badger – Secretive and steadfast, the badger is a true emblem of English woodland. With its bold stripes and sturdy stance, it’s often seen as a guardian of the forest. Our badger, snug in his winter hat, captures the quiet strength and enduring heart of the countryside.

Scotland

🦌 Red Deer – Towering and regal, the red deer is Scotland’s largest native land mammal and a familiar sight in the Highlands. During the autumn rut, their echoing calls fill the glens — a sound that has come to symbolise the wild spirit of Scotland. Our deer stands proud against a snowy backdrop, wrapped in a cosy scarf for his winter wanderings.

🐿️ Red Squirrel – Once widespread, now cherished and protected, the red squirrel’s russet fur and tufted ears are a rare delight in Scotland’s pine forests. It’s quick, curious, and playful — often seen darting through the trees. With its bright scarf and cheeky pose, our squirrel captures that spark of life even in the depths of winter.

🐇 Mountain Hare – High in the Scottish hills, the mountain hare changes its coat to white as snow arrives — an ancient trick of camouflage. It’s a symbol of resilience and the quiet adaptation of nature. Our hare, with its blue woolly hat, sits poised for a frosty adventure among the heather and snow.

Wales

🐬 Risso’s Dolphin – Playful and social, these striking dolphins are often spotted off the Welsh coast, especially around Cardigan Bay. Known for their strong family bonds, they capture the lively, community spirit of coastal Wales. Our Risso’s dolphin leaps joyfully across the print, a splash of ocean life amid the winter stillness.

🐟 Gwyniad Fish – Unique to Bala Lake in Snowdonia, the Gwyniad is a species found nowhere else in the world. Quietly gliding through deep, cold waters, it’s a symbol of rarity and endurance — much like the hidden treasures of Welsh nature. Wearing a tiny bobble hat, our Gwyniad brings a touch of whimsy to this special print.

🐴 Welsh Mountain Pony – Strong, sure-footed, and kind-eyed, the Welsh Mountain Pony has roamed the hillsides for centuries. Beloved for its spirit and loyalty, it’s part of the nation’s cultural heritage. Our pony, dressed in a patterned saddle blanket, stands proudly among the snowflakes — elegant, steadfast, and ready for adventure.

Northern Ireland

🐝 Irish Black Honey Bee – Hardy, gentle and native to Ireland, this little bee thrives in cool, damp climates and plays a vital role in pollinating wildflowers and crops. Its dark colouring helps it survive colder weather — a quiet marvel of adaptation. In our print, the bee buzzes cheerfully through the snow, a tiny reminder of how life keeps going, even in winter’s chill.

🦦 Pine Marten – Once nearly lost from the Irish landscape, the pine marten has made a heartening return to Northern Ireland’s forests. Sleek, curious, and nimble, it’s a symbol of resilience and ecological recovery. Our pine marten wears a jaunty scarf as it scampers through the snow — a celebration of hope, renewal, and the beauty of balance returning to nature.

Each animal has its own bit of charm, but together they create a design that really celebrates connection — to nature, to place, and to one another.

Sewing with the Cosy Adventures Fabric

This fabric has a lovely medium weight and a gentle stretch, which makes it so versatile. You can use it for:

Pyjamas and loungewear – It’s the star of our Jeanne and Hudson Pyjama Kits, but it would also work for any comfy knit pattern.

Sweatshirts and hoodies – Try patterns like the Toaster Sweater, Jarrah Sweater or Page Hoodie for an everyday layer.

Casual dresses and tops – I think it would make a beautiful Billie Jumper Dress or Le Sweat Top.

Children’s wear – The brushed reverse makes it perfect for soft, cosy kids’ clothes. The Jeanne PJ pattern featured in our kits starts from Age 2 size (which also worked for my 18 month old), but for littler babies the Ikatee Lisboa jumpsuit or the Brindille and Twig Zip Suit would also work well.

I've designed the directional print so that you won't need to worry about pattern matching, this makes it nice and easy to work with even for beginners to stretch fabric.

I hope it leaves you feeling inspired to make some lovely snuggly makes for you and your loved ones!
