Guthrie & Ghani Events 2025: A Year of Sewing, Community & Creativity

A look back at Guthrie & Ghani events in 2025 — from Stitch Festival and Sew Brum to fabric launches, workshops, guest tutors, and our dressmaking community.

As the year draws to a close, it feels like the perfect moment to pause and look back on some real highlights 2025 has brought to Guthrie & Ghani.

This year has been full of too many meaningful moments to mention them all, from busy sewing festivals and fabric launches to intimate in-store events that brought our dressmaking community together. These are the experiences that remind us why independent sewing spaces matter, and why community sits at the heart of everything we do.

Here’s a look back at some of the standout Guthrie & Ghani events of 2025.

Stitch Festival 2025 – Seeing G&G Out in the Wild

After taking a break from shows for a little while simply because we are a small team and shows take a lot of us to pull together, Stitch Festival 2025 was one of the biggest highlights of the year for us. We loved meeting so many sewists in person, familiar faces and new ones alike, and sharing a weekend filled with inspiration, creativity, and conversation was a true delight.

One of the things that made it so special was seeing Guthrie & Ghani fabrics and kits out in the wild. Spotting garments made from our fabrics, worn with pride and styled in so many different ways, was incredibly rewarding. It’s a powerful reminder that fabric truly comes to life once it leaves the shelf and finds its way into your sewing room.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, shared their makes, and told us what they were sewing next, those connections are what make sewing festivals so special.

The Greek Goddess Fabric Collection Launch

The launch of the Greek Goddess Fabric Collection was a deeply creative and personal moment for us in 2025. Inspired by strength, femininity, mythology, and storytelling through dressmaking, this collection marked a really special chapter.

To celebrate the launch of the new fabric collection and mark the start of summer here at g&g we hosted a wonderful open event for all our customers to come along to the shop and studio to see the fabrics and kits for the very first time! The g&g team and I have worked super hard over the last few months, bringing all the details together to make it the most fun day ever!!

If you’d like to explore the story behind the collection and see how it came together, you can read more here:

These makes perfectly captured the spirit of the collection and showcased just how powerful fabric can be as a form of self-expression.

We celebrated with fizz, delicious homemade lemonade using my own secret recipe, and the sweetest cupcakes — each one personalised with details from the fabrics. It felt like such a special way to bring the collection to life.

My daughter Sophia did an amazing job helping everyone create their own little fabric badge to take home as a souvenir of the day, using the new designs. Watching people make something small but meaningful from the fabrics was such a joy.

It was also incredibly lovely to see our customers arrive wearing their handmade outfits, and the in-store customer and staff showcase catwalk was a real highlight — everyone looked fantastic.

Seeing the shop filled with creativity, excitement, and people browsing fabrics while planning their next projects is such a special moment. It’s exactly why the team and I love designing new fabrics for you and hosting events where we can come together, share ideas, and celebrate making.

An Afternoon with Patrick Grant

Another highlight of the year was welcoming Patrick Grant to the studio for a very special afternoon of conversation and creativity. With the 2025 Sewing Bee just around the corner, it felt like the perfect moment to come together and talk all things making.

Patrick shared insights into his time on Savile Row, tailoring traditions, and his deep passion for craftsmanship and skills-based creativity. The afternoon was filled with thoughtful discussion, laughter, and plenty of inspiration, a true celebration of the value of making well and making with care.

It was such a joy to hear stories from behind the scenes and to get a glimpse into the world of tailoring and tradition from someone who champions creativity so wholeheartedly. Hosting such an intimate event made it feel especially meaningful, and the room was full of curiosity, warmth, and shared enthusiasm for dressmaking and craft.

Moments like this, where conversation, community, and creativity come together, are exactly why we love opening our space for events like these.

Sew Brum 2025: Community, Creativity & Connection

Sew Brum was another standout highlight of the year and a perfect example of what happens when the sewing community comes together in one shared space. From the moment the doors opened, there was a real buzz in the room — a mix of excitement, creativity, and that unmistakable feeling of being surrounded by people who just get your love of making.

Sew Brum offered something for everyone. Conversations flowed easily, fabrics were admired, projects were discussed in detail, and there was a genuine sense of generosity in sharing knowledge and enthusiasm.

We raised £4,139!

Your amazing energy, generosity and enthusiasm helped us raise an incredible £4,139 for Anawim's Birmingham centre for women. This donation will go directly towards Anawim’s vital work in Birmingham, providing trauma-informed support, counselling, education and a safe community for women facing challenging circumstances.

We’re already dreaming up ideas for another charity event next year, but for now, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who made this year such a success.

Learning Together: Workshops, Retreats & How Far You’ve Travelled

One of the most rewarding parts of 2025 has been welcoming so many of you into the studio for classes, workshops, and retreats. Seeing people travel such distances to learn, sew, and spend time making together never stops feeling special — it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

This year, we ran 140 classes, welcoming 923 students through our doors and delivering an amazing 908 hours of teaching. Of those attending, 75 were beginners, taking their very first steps into dressmaking, a reminder of just how important it is to create a supportive, welcoming space for people at every stage of their sewing journey.

We were also thrilled to host a series of three-day weekend retreats with guest tutor C.L. Hardie, offering the chance to slow down, immerse yourself in making, and really focus on your sewing. Alongside these, we welcomed inspiring guest tutors including Tony Rae and Lisa Falconar (Avid Seamstress), whose classes brought fresh ideas, new skills, and a real buzz to the studio.

What makes it even more remarkable is how far many of you travelled to be part of it all. Students joined us from Newcastle, Grimsby, Hartlepool, Norfolk, Essex, and across Scotland, as well as further afield from Guernsey, Dublin, and even the USA.

Knowing that people are willing to travel such distances to learn with us, spend time in the studio, and be part of this community means more than we can say. It’s the perfect reminder of why we love teaching, hosting events, and creating spaces where dressmakers can come together, learn, and feel inspired.

When we reflect on Guthrie & Ghani’s 2025 events, what stands out most isn’t just the calendar highlights, but the people who made them meaningful. Every visit, every conversation, every shared make has helped shape this year.

Thank you for being part of our dressmaking community. We’re already looking forward to what’s to come and can’t wait to share more in the year ahead.
