The g&g Stitch Academy - Teens - Age 14+

Do you have a teenager who loves fashion and textiles? Are they keen to learn new skills and techniques, so they can make their own clothes? Well if so, this half-termly after-school g&g stitch academy is the perfect place for them! They will learn how to use a range of textiles materials and tools (including the sewing machine), to make clothing or accessories for themselves, with their own choice of fabrics that reflect their individuality. They will complete one set project over the half-term.

In this weekly class, students will learn how to thread up the sewing machine, how to change the settings to sew a straight and a zigzag stitch. Then they will put all these skills into practise as they complete a fashion project. This half-term they will make a fun pair of pyjama bottoms! They will learn how to join seams, make hems and an elasticated fastening. There will be no stopping them once they have learnt the basics.

Helen discovered her love of craft from a young age, always making and creating things as a child with her mom and sister. Her nan, a talented dressmaker, has been of huge inspiration to her over the years and sparked her interest in making garments.

Helen studied Fashion & Textiles Design at Leeds University, and here her passion for learning new skills and techniques developed. Previously a secondary school teacher of Design & Technology and Textiles, she loves nothing more than inspiring children to be creative, learn new skills and make things that they can be proud of. With over 14 years of teaching experience she has taught a wide range of ages and cannot wait to teach the future generation of sewists here at the g&g Stitch Academy.
