The inaugural g&g Sewing Bee Sunday

Blog / 27 May 2014

The first event of its kind here at g&g, the Sewing Bee Sunday is aimed at getting together people who love to sew!

We all have knowledge, experience, ideas, enthusiasm and passion to share and what better way to celebrate that, than get together and SEW in a good old fashioned Sewing Bee.

During this event the studio will be an open hive of activity with several areas of different expertise you can visit...

The customisation station

Do you have garments or projects that need a new lease of life? Or if you don’t want to throw away a loved garment but feel it’s too worn out to wear, then you can transform it into something else! Visit Jenni aka Tailor Taylor at the customisation station to get ideas and advice on how to turn something old into something new! Jenni flippin’ loves to customise and up-cycle and is full of cool ideas!

The Work in Progress Station

Have you started a project and aren’t sure how to get passed then next stage of construction? Do you have half made projects hidden in a cupboard that really need finishing off? Bring them along to the work in progress station where Lauren (whoop – that’s me!) will help and advise you on how to tick it off the list and get that project finished!

The repair station

Always wanted to know how to mend that zip or take up a hem? Have you got a top that doesn’t fit? Then head over to the repair station where Claire will be able to help and advise.

Depending on how complex and involved the project is, there maybe be time to fix it all right there and then, our lovely machines will be all set up ready for you to have a go and get sewing!

Pattern and Fabric Swop Bar

We are all guilty of squirreling and stashing away fabric, sometimes for years! Breathe a new lease of life into your fabric stash or stack of patterns in a good old-fashioned swop! There will be a variety of things that you can swop with on the day including some lovely vintage patterns but you never know who will pop along, one seamstresses unwanted goods is another seamstresses treasure! Bring along any fabric or patterns that you would like to swop and pick up something new for your stash!

After all that hard work, pop into the shop for a browse and have a cuppa and some delicious homemade cake! Num Num Num!!!

Some come along, bring your projects and ideas and any fabric and patterns that you’d like to trade! It’ll be a blast!

We are running this as a charity event to raise money for Parkinson's UK. Ayaz is running the Berlin marathon this year with our good friend Harvey. His father, who suffered with Parkinson's disease, sadly passed away last year. We are really proud and pleased to be supporting this great cause and all funds raised from the event on the day will be going straight to the charity.

When: Sunday 22nd June 11-4pm, drop by any time!

Where: In the studio above the shop!

Entry: £5 (in aid of Parkinson’s UK) Pay on the day!

There will also be special offer and an amazing raffle with lots of lovely g&g prizes to be won!

If you can't make it on the day but would still like to support our fundraising activities and spur us on during the grueling training,  you can donate through our 'Just Giving' Page (justgiving.com/ayazghani/) or text LAGG80 to 70070 to donate!
