The g&g gift guide
Christmas wishes for the sewist

Blog / 28 November 2018

Being a dressmaking fan at Christmas time is pretty useful as there are always so many lovely things that are sewing related or tools and supplies that you can add to your sewing box.

Here is our round up of some great stocking filler presents as well a lovely treats for yourself!

Hear me chat about them and show them up close in my new Youtube video or read on for link on where to buy on the website.

Super sewing boxes

These brand new Prym love starter sewing boxes are great for beginners, they have are the basics you need to get started on some serious sewing!

Or custom make your own special box. These are the boxes we have for students to use in all our workshops and could be filled up with any goodies your dressmakers wishes for from as aluminium seam gauge to a precision chalk wheel!

Extra Special scissors

Any sewist will know that a great pair of scissors is a dream when you come to cut out your fabric. These xact shears are fantastic, especially for slippery fabric or cutting through lots of layers. There are micro teeth along the blade, which grip the fabric as you cut giving you much more control and precision.

The applique scissors are great for applique as the name suggests but are also fantastic for trimming seam allowances when dressmaking. Grading seam allowances is much easier with these scissors as the duck bill blade keeps the fabric to the side whilst you trim the section you need to!

The cute rose gold embroidery scissors are great to have near by for snipping any loose threads or clipping in notches.

Sewing tools and notions bundles

Having good quality sewing tools and notions in your sewing box makes sewing even more enjoyable! These nifty accessories are great for anyone who wants to spruce up these supplies.

The hand sewing kit contains the bright turquoise needle holder, which works a bit like a twist up list stick. All your needles are held into place by a magnet at the bottom, then when you twist the holder the needles fan out making them really easy to lift out. The bees wax will stop your thread getting all tangled and the ergonomic thimble will stop you getting sore finger tips!

I love my magnetic pin cushion and the super fine pins that come in the deluxe pin kit are amazing at gliding though fabric without snagging. They are steel sprung pins so are resistant to rust and bending and the glass head means you can get close with the iron too!

Get, set, sew bundles!

Having everything you need for a project makes getting started even easier!

Our Closet case patterns ebony tee kit has everything you need to make a gorgeous jersey top!

Or for any beginners that need a helping hand, my book Learn to Sew with Lauren takes you from complete beginner to accomplished dressmaker through a series of lovely projects starting with a simple cushion cover and finishing with a lovely dress. Our special gift pack for this Christmas is just £20 and includes a signed copy and enough fabric to complete the first project in the book!

Stocking stuffers

These lovely add on gifts are sure to be loved by any sewist or dressmaker.

The range of Kylie and the Machine woven labels are a great way to add a finishing touch to a handmade garment. My favourite is 'this is the back', I'm always getting confused with some garments...not anymore!

The beautiful enamel pins and key-rings from The Pink Coat Club are perfect for showing off your sewing talents!

Popper and pliers

Sometimes you can't believe how you did things before you had a certain sewing tool! That's what happened when I got my vario pliers. They are really versatile for applying lots of fastenings from jersey snaps and coloured poppers to jeans buttons and anorak snaps.

This brand new flower case with a selection of bright and colourful jersey snaps pairs perfectly with it too!
